    DFG-Project Registers in Contact (RegiCo)

Aim

Presentation of the DFG-funded project „Registers in Contact“ (RegiCo) and exchange of experience in the areas of scientific discourse, creation of diachronic corpora and methods of exploitation.

Project description In this project we investigate the principles of register formation and the diachronic development of scientific registers in highly specialized domains. The current subject of investigation is SciTex (English Scientific Text Corpus), which includes DaSciTex (Darmstadt Scientific Text Corpus), the synchronic corpus of English scientific texts from the early 2000’s, and SaSciTex (Saarbrücken Scientific Text Corpus), which represents a diachronic expansion of DaSciTex and will include scientific texts from the 1960/70’s. The main goals of the project are

  • to build and analyse a diachronic corpus of scientific English
  • to develop register profiles of selected scientific domains
  • to develop a corpus-based methodology for the linguistic description of emerging registers.
